Whilst walking along Halesworth’s main Thoroughfare, you cannot fail to notice that many of the black bollards in the pedestrianised zone have been brightly painted to depict the themes and names of many of the Town’s businesses and organisations. Anthony Eden began the campaign when he glimpsed a painted bollard in the City of Winchester, Hampshire on a television programme. This made him think about the sad state of many of the bollards in Halesworth. He put forward the idea to residents, retailers and Halesworth Town Council of painting the bollards in the colours of the painter’s choice, in themes of floral decoration or humour. After a trial run, permission to launch the

project was received from the Authorities. The bollards are subject to availability, once the bollard has been “reserved”,

or organisation then contacts an artist of their choice to paint it. To enquire about the availability of “unpainted” bollards, please telephone 01986 875930. Visitors from many counties across the UK have

expressed an interest in promoting the scheme in their home towns. When you are next in Halesworth’s

Thoroughfare, take a moment to admire the artwork of Halesworth “Bollart”.
