Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker, one of the greatest British botanists and explorers of the 19th century, was born in Hooker House, Quay Street, Halesworth on June 30th 1817. This Internationally renowned botanist served
as director of the Royal Botanical Gardens from 1865 to 1885, Kew, succeeding his father, Sir William Hooker, and was awarded the highest honours of British science. He was a close friend and early supporter of Charles Darwin. The ‘Hooker Trail’
in Halesworth has been
