HEAR THIS:

THE PUNISHMENT OF LUXURY O.M.D. Or should I have written Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark? Everyone who loves their innovative style knows Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys make beautiful music together. Since their hit single “Electricity” in 1979, they have been creating memorable composi- tions. WithThe Punishment of Luxury, there is no punishment as far as enjoying the new tracks. O.M.D.’s creativity has morphed into a grand scale and if “Isotype” or the lead title track is any indication… it’s no “Secret,” O.M.D. still generates a musical buzz to be loved. Available September 1.

PLUM Wand Wave your magic wand is right! With Wand’s new releasePlum, it is compelling to know that the band has managed to stir up a pot of music that evokes The Who, The Beatles (circa 1969) and add a touch of Frank Zappa and Cream. Plum is a time capsule of rock created anew. Just when you think the sounds are going in one direction; the group moves in another. No pop music to be found here. Just solid musicianship matched with the troubadour vocals of Cory Hanson. Available September 29.

NOW Shania Twain The past several years for Shania have been compli- cated, to say the least. Start with “Poor Me” and “Life’s About to Get Good” and realize when you have an amazing talent, money and fame… Love can still knock you for a loop. Shania Twain has proven though that her musical skills have never left her. That’s the point of Now; there is no stopping her strong spirit. “Man, I feel like… Some new music from Shania Twain.” Amen. I’m so glad she made it. Available September 29.

THE BIG SICK In the tradition of the classic 1967 filmGuess Who’s Coming to Dinner which dealt in a very human and comedic way with interracial love,The Big Sick takes a modern spin on the pairing of a Pakistani American man and his American girlfriend. How will his Muslim mother and father feel? Let alone her parents? The chemistry between Kumail Nanjiani and Zoe Kazan is spot on, while Holly Hunter and Ray Romano excel as her parents. As a stand-up comic, Nanjiani is phenomenal.

Available September 18.

CHERRY POP A bitchy drag performer? Can you imagine? The nails and the wigs fly and the attitude of “zingers” in this sharp-edged ode to the lifestyle of female imperson- ators.Cherry Pop takes place in somewhat of a lesser known establishment and chronicles a first-time performer coming into the cage… Or dressing room, should I say of a bunch of bitter queens. Hilarious antics ensue and of course, some heavy drama. Would you expect otherwise? Caldwell Tidicue as the emcee and Detox Icunt are in fine form.
