in a couple of years and faced off against Marshall Spears’ JACALWA. As they came down the course it was close, but JACALWA slowly worked his way out in front. Next up was the Wooden Boat Races. In
Class A just GRASSHOPPER was entered, but in Class B it would be a battle between Alan Dugas’ DELUSIONAL up against his brother Scott’s SAND DOLLARS III. It was close all the way down the course, but DELUSIONAL had a very slight lead and maintained it right across the fi nish line. The next race was, Boats Built by John-
son’s Boat Yard, which was won by LYNN MARIE, followed by MISS KARLEE and Dave Johnston’s CASCO MISS. This race was followed by the Royal
River Boat Yard Race. Right from the start the leader was JACALWA followed by DONNA ELAINE and CARL & CO. No one was surprised that LYNN
MARIE got the win in the Gasoline Free- for-All, with second going to BLACK DI- AMOND. Again no one was surprised to see
WILD WILD WEST power her way by the other fi ve racers for the win in the Diesel Free-for-All. Second went to MOTIVA- TION and third was BLUE EYED GIRL. Now would we be granted our wish to
see a race between WILD WILD WEST and LYNN MARIE and the answer was yes. When the fl ag dropped LYNN MARIE jumped right into the lead, When the smoke fi nally cleared from WILD WILD WEST’s stack she was off . She was gaining and it was getting close, but there was just not enough course to make up the diff erence. LYNN MARIE got the win with WILD WILD WEST second and MOTIVATION third. * * * * *

areas in coastal rivers were identifi ed based on physical and biological features, such as soil type in the river bed, water temperature and salinity, and underwater vegetation, that are essential to the conservation of Atlantic sturgeon, particularly for spawning and development. Atlantic sturgeon were harvested
heavily in the twentieth century, particu- larly for their eggs (or roe) used for caviar. Overfi shing led to a decline in abundance of Atlantic sturgeon, and in 1998 the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission issued a coast-wide moratorium on the harvest of Atlantic sturgeon, and NOAA Fisheries fol- lowed with a similar moratorium in federal waters.

season. However, this event is not just about winning, but raising money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Maine. The Maine lobster fi shermen have been extremely gen- erous donating their winnings back to the cause over the last six years and this year would be no diff erent. The weather was absolutely beauti- ful: bright sunshine, a little warmer than I
would like, and a moderate breeze out of the sou’west. When sign-ups were fi nished there were 56 racers entered with 15 in the Skiff Races; fi ve in the Gasoline Classes and 36 in the Diesel Classes. In Work Boat Class A there was just one
entrant, Jacob Noyes’ ISLANDER and he ran up the course by himself. We all knew that there would be a great battle for the top
spot in Class B as the top three boats all run in the low 40s. As they closed in on the fi nish line ZIPPIN’ had the lead with J-Boat doing all she could to catch him, but in vain as they fi nished one two. Getting third was NADEN. In Class C winning for the sec- ond day was HOSTILE, followed over by
