MOTIVATION and WILD WILD WEST, and again with the same result. The fi nal race of the day was Bass Har-

bor’s Fastest Lobster boat and this was won by RACHEL IRENE.

BEALS ISLAND/JONESPORT – Anyone who understands the coast of Maine knows that during the summer months fog can be a problem. Well there were two cancellations before we were fi nally able to race on 4 July. Sometimes there is an interesting story

that takes place the day before the races. We have seen numerous engine issues happen, but this is the fi rst time we nearly lost a boat to a sinking. Doug Dodge decided to put BRENDA in the water. He was running her around the Reach when he noticed there was a lot of water running around her on the inside. He headed for shore and grounded her out just before she went under. First up was the Recreational Race and this race was won by Curtis Robinson, Jr. There were fi ve entrants in Work Boat

Class A and the defending champion was Noah Tobais Carver and DAWN TREAD- ER. However, he did not have enough for Michael Gray’s SHIT DIGGER. In Class B the winner was Michael Roeber. In Class C the winner was Nick Graham. There were just three boats in the fi ve

Gasoline Classes and each in a class of their own. There were no entrants in Class A and E. In Class B the winner was Clark Mill’s MCKENSI STARR and Class C, Randy Durkee’s BLACK DIAMOND and Class D Bruce Engert’s THUNDERBOLT. In Diesel Class A was Erick Black-

wood’s SHANNA & ERICK, which was repowered over the winter with a 210-hp Cummins and he bested Josef Guptill’s HOT SHOT. In Class B Ennis Wright’s ERIKA & KYLE continued his dominance. In Class C, Winifred Alley's LAST DESIGN just beat Richard Alley’s FAMILY ALLIANCE. There were just two entrants in Class D and this was won by Jeremy Chandler’s KINS- LEY-MAE ROSE. In Class E it was Kenton Fenney's BAD INFLUENCE taking the win. Ed Torosian of MS. ROSE came all the way from NH to win Class F. There was just one entrant in Class G, Dana Beal’s RIGHT STUFF. In Class H, the winner was Dean Beal's MISS NORMA, who had not raced since 2002. For two years Patrick Faulking- ham’s MARGARET E. and Chris Smith’s MISTY has been battling it out in Class I with MARGARET E. being the usual victor and today was no diff erent. Many had come to see Cameron Crawford’s WILD WILD WEST, but she was the only entrant in Class L so she ran down the course by herself with a speed of 56.3 mph. There were ten boats in Class M(A), which was won Calvin Beal's new boat VONDELL LEA. In Class M(B) 12 boats were on the line with the win going

to Eric Beal’s KIMBERLY ANN. In the fi nal class, N, three boats were on the line. and Matthew Merchant’s CHIX DIG IT was the fi rst over. A real shocker was that there were no

entrants in either Wooden Boat Races A or B.

In the Gasoline Free-for-All there was

Over the winter Calvin Beal built a new VONDELL LEA, a Calvin Beal 42 powered with a 500-hp Cummins. She showed her stern to the other nine competitors in Diesel Class M(A).

no surprise as THUNDERBOLT took the win.

Just four boats lined up for the Diesel

Free-for-All and this was easily won by WILD WILD WEST. Now, who was going to be the top

working boat? Six boats were on the line and it became a race between KIMBERLY

ANN and MARGARET E., which went to MARGARET E. In the fi nal race of the day, World’s

Fastest Recreational Lobster Boat, we all hoped THUNDERBOLT would race WILD WILD WEST, but it was not to be. WILD
