Grow Maine Green Expo….. your “must-attend” meeting!

By Don Sproul, MELNA Executive Director MELNA’s and MAA’s Annual Meeting & Trade

Show’s date and place will feel the same….January 20, 2016, the Augusta Civic Center. But it now has a new name. Te Inaugural Grow

Maine Green Expo will feature an even larger trade show where vendors and buyers can meet face to face to grow relationships; a keynote address; seminars for pesticide and MELNA certification credits; information on how you can best tie into MELNA’s new $60,000 marketing program; the annual awards luncheon; MELNA’s annual business meeting. Tere is so much happening in the industry right now – come and learn from each other. Networking has always been one of the greatest benefits of our Annual Meeting & Trade Show. Now we have expanded that network to include the Maine Arborist Association, allowing you to gain greater knowledge and more business contacts while generating more income for both associations. Te keynote address, “Te Essential Layers of Living Landscapes” will be given by Rick Darke. Rick Darke heads RICK DARKE LLC, a Pennsylvania-based consulting firm focused on landscape ethics, photography, and contextual design. Darke’s work blends art, ecology, and cultural geography in the design and management of living landscapes. Projects include parks, scenic byways, transportation corridors, corporate and collegiate campuses, conservation developments, post-industrial and historic brownfields, botanic gardens, and residential landscapes. His many books including Te American Woodland Garden: Capturing the Spirit of the Deciduous Forest, Te Encyclopedia of Grasses for Livable Landscapes, and Te Living Landscape: Designing for Beauty

and Biodiversity in the Home Garden co-authored with Doug Tallamy. For further information visit: www.rickdarke.com Te keynote address by Rick Darke will talk about

how the richness of life in any landscape is linked to the richness of its layers, and this is true for both people and wildlife. Rick Darke will illustrate and discuss how an understanding of living layers and relational biodiversity can be put to practical use in

the making and maintenance of residential gardens and community landscapes. Strategies for employing “organic architecture” (trees and shrubs) in creating beautiful, conserving, highly

functional layers will be presented in detail. Come on January 20 to help you stay relevant in

our ever-changing industry. Registration forms were mailed in December. If you don’t have yours, please contact the MELNA Office at MngmtPlus@aol.com.
