New Westgen building wins award for agricultural excellence

ABBOTSFORD – The new WestGen office building in Abbotsford received the Award of Excellence in the Agricultural Buildings category at the 2016 Fraser Valley Commercial Building Awards.

The new offices, located at 1625 Angus Campbell Road, were built as a hub for the Western Canadian agricultural community.

They feature inviting seating areas, a fully functional kitchen and large communal dining area, cryogenic storage capabilities for a variety of agricultural needs and rentable meeting spaces for WestGen members. The double-helix shape of DNA, the heart of genetics, is not only the WestGen logo; it also inspired many of the architectural features of the new Abbotsford headquarters. The building was built by Huston Powers Architects and general contractor Unitech Construction Management.

“I really find the model of the organization interesting as a way of dealing with the issues. It has been really effective at bringing farmers and conservationists together to maintain wildlife habitat, as well as economically viable agricultural operations,” he says. “I am looking forward to building on and expanding what's been working for years and continuing to support the organization’s connection to the community.” Dondar is replacing Christine Terpsma, who is moving to Alberta to pursue new opportunities.
