THE DOG AND DUCK

The Dog & Duck in Camp- sea Ashe is without doubt one of the most stylish pubs you will find in our region. having recently undergone a substantial refurbishment, the pub now has new ten- ants at the helm. Liz and Ray took over on

July 1st and have wasted no time in putting their stamp on the business. The couple have passion, enthusiasm and a very clear idea of what they would like to offer at the Dog & Duck. This is very much a gastro pub – a restau- rant that serves drinks rather than a pub that serves food. So, what is Ray and Liz’s

vision? Well, having researched what was already available in the area, they saw a gap in the market for a venue serving fresh home- cooked food with a focus on seafood. With a plan in place they went about recruiting the best possible chef. It didn’t take them long to find head Chef Matthew Last. Matthew has vast experi-

ence working at high-end restaurants on the coast and shares Ray and Liz’s passion and vision to serve superb fresh, seasonal food, and, being located along the Suf- folk heritage Coast, this includes seafood. Matthew is a qualified chef teacher and has hand-picked his kitchen team. A state-of-the- art kitchen and highly skilled team of professionals

ensures a consistently high level of cooking, and, cui- sine that mixes both tradi- tional classics and daily changing specials. The spe- cials depend on what the fishmonger brings; recently that has included lobster, scallops, hake and oysters. The interior décor really is

stunning. Three stylish rooms surround the centrally located bar with quiet cosy corners for those who like a bit of privacy, and larger tables in the main bar area for anyone who prefers the hustle and bustle of a busy restaurant. The great food is just half

the story here. There is a completely new team of staff working behind the bar and in the restaurant, and the team are regularly praised for the excellent service they offer. Naturally, when a diner is presented with a stunning plate of delicious local food that has been lov- ingly prepared, that goes some way towards putting a smile on their face, but, you can never under estimate the importance of great service. Behind the bar you will

find a great selection of local, craft and artisan beers, cider and spirits. Ray and Liz have also put together a fantastic wine list using a local com- pany with years of expertise and knowledge. Add to that a wide array of bottled and soft drinks and there really is

something for everyone. Of course, at this time of

year many customers will prefer to sit outside. The Dog & Duck has a lovely garden with plenty of seating for al fresco dining and an amaz- ing built-in BBQ area. In fact, there is even a pizza oven! With the warm sum- mer months and holiday sea- son now well and truly upon us the team are making the most of these fantastic facili- ties and will be cooking from the pizza oven and BBQ between 3pm-6pm every day. This means food will be available all day with lunch service running 12pm-3pm, pizza and BBQ 3pm – 6pm and evening service 6pm – 9pm. Running alongside the

regular menu there will also be special food nights, with

Tuesday being a themed menu such as curry, Mexi- can, Italian etc, and Friday being a fish special, where the already amazing fish choices will be even greater! Ray explains that this is important, they are always looking at what they can introduce to give their cus- tomers more choice and a different experience – so watch this space. The final element of the

business are the apartments to let. The Dog & Duck have two self-contained apart- ments, Barn Owl and Tawny Owl, to the rear of the car park. Both apartments have one double bedroom and a pull-out sofa bed in the lounge so can comfortably sleep up to four people. each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, spacious

bathroom, flat-screen tv and all the comfortable mod- cons you’d expect of such a stylish establishment. The price is just £125 per night, with special offers available out of peak season. Please contact the team for avail- ability and any further infor- mation. Ray and Liz look forward

to welcoming customers old and new to the Dog & Duck. Booking is highly recom- mended throughout the week and especially weekends. The team cater for every- thing from a quiet meal for two up to larger parties and groups. Please call 01728 746211 to reserve a table, or visit www.dogandducksuf- folk.co.uk for any further information.

Best wishes to The Dog & Duck
