Your adventure starts with the unique opportunity to see where the Danube – which flows through 10 countries – meets the Black Sea. A stop at the picturesque village of St Gheorghe is then made for small boat trips through the remote Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, a flourishing haven for wildlife.
Bucharest tours are available on day three, before you proceed on to Ruse, Bulgaria. This enticing destination is affectionately known as ‘Little Vienna’, due to its extravagant architecture and elegant squares. Close by, the Rusenski Lom Nature Park features stunning rock monasteries and caves. Brabant will then cruise into remote Vidin, where the Baba Vida Fortress is a must-see.

Savour a momentous experience as you cruise the Iron Gates gorges. Flanked by National Parks, the river narrows to just 150m wide at the Great Kazan gorge, where the Rock Sculpture of Decebalus lies. A full day in Belgrade gives time to discover the historic monuments and museums showcasing Serbia’s fascinating history. Don’t miss Knez Mihailova Boulevard, which leads to the Kalemegdan Fortress. From here, beautiful, natural views can be captured.
Belgrade
Next is a city on the up: Novi Sad has been named as a future European Capital of Culture. The main thoroughfare, Zmaj Jovina, is a rewarding walk, though the main landmark is surely the Petrovaradin Fortress. The clock tower is famous for its ‘reversed’ hands, which help fishermen tell the time from afar. Back sailing the Danube, scenic views unfold as Brabant continues through the fertile plains of the Tisa-Danube Basin. From Kalocsa you can head off on a journey to learn the history of paprika and how it became the ‘red gold’ of the region. Alternatively, admire Hungarian horses and traditional costumes during a horse show within the Puszta plains.
A full day in UNESCO-listed Budapest rounds off your itinerary. Take a trip along Andrássy Avenue towards Heroes’ Square; marvel at the Buda Castle complex; or uncover the historic Millennium Underground Railway, perhaps. The Széchenyi Chain Bridge, the oldest of 12 bridges, is a true joy to behold too, while throughout the city there are many fine cafés and restaurants – not to forget the iconic thermal healing baths – to indulge in.
