NEWS APRIL NEWS Turning park project into reality

As the countdown to the fundraising deadline for the £225,000 target to build Calverley Adventure Grounds in the heart of Tunbridge Wells edged nearer, the reality came one step closer when local store Hoopers handed over a cheque for £2,261.64 to some of the volunteers working on the campaign. Hoopers were one of the

fi rst businesses to commit their support to the Calverley Adventure Grounds campaign, which aims to transform a disused

Amateur photographers are being offered the opportunity to share their pictures with the chance of being selected to appear in a new book celebrating the three decades of the Kings Hills development at West Malling. The coffee table style publication will combine the work of professional photographers and amateur enthusiasts to chart the evolution of Kings Hill from a fl at military airfi eld to the beautifully landscaped, bustling garden village it is today.

CHARITY OF THE MONTH PEPENBURY

Tunbridge Wells Paralympic champion Will Bayley MBE has become an ambassador for local Kent learning disability charity Pepenbury. Will, the Men’s Class 7 World number one Para table tennis player, won the hearts of the nation during the Rio Paralympic Games in 2016 when he ‘completed the impossible’ and claimed Paralympic Team GB’s gold medal in the men’s class 7 table tennis final. Will, who was born with

arthrogryposis, a rare congenital disorder that affects all four of his limbs, took up the sport when his grandmother bought him a table tennis table while he was battling childhood cancer.

Known for his passion and dedication, Will made the decision to partner with Pepenbury after visiting them last year. Based in Pembury with more than 250

staff, Pepenbury provides residential facilities with full-time care, supported living, a day services centre and a community team that help support people living on their own in the community around West Kent. The charity primarily supports people

with a learning disability, but many have additional support needs. These may include physical disability, specifi c syndromes, autism, challenging behaviour and dual diagnosis (learning disability and mental health issues), and may need long-term residential care. Others are able

to progress to more independent living through training in life and work skills, which Pepenbury provide. • For more information, visit www. pepenbury.info
