Paul Farris -
GoFest Founder 15 years ago; I was playing with an idea called ‘Centurion’ where groups of friends undertake sporting challenges like a round of golf. Every event had a score out of 10 and players would try and build their average score. They would wear t-shirts with a huge ‘7.2’ on it. And now Paul has gone one better, with a brilliant format that actually works. You pay an entry fee and then can try 50 sports; with new sessions starting on the hour. It’s fantastic. Go from Archery Tag to Handball in a flash. During the show Paul took us through the journey of having an idea to making it happen. There were plenty of laughs and like the best interviewee was forthcoming with things that went wrong. The first
event at Surrey Sports Park in 2015 lost him a lot of money. And last year lost a bit too, but it was much closer. So take the kids, try some new sports as well as the old classics.
Oh and we he got home, he said to Mrs Farris “I think I’ve just had the best two hours of my life”. Check out this years’ event at Surrey Sports Park on 28/29 May @GoFestUK
Kate Ovens - eater Man vs Food. Love it. So does @KateOvens. This slender cute blond can out eat a horse. Or eats like a horse. Or could eat a horse. Her capacity to eat big has got her all over the UK doing food challenges. She wins about half. Recently she
was flown by Comedy Central to LA for a challenge and soon she will be at Gee’s Burger in Fleet for a personally designed burger. She has also just started a job at LAD Bible, creating interesting content.
Kate did not like her self-image at
aged 16. In her own words she was chubby. She decided to do something about it; mainly (and ironically) by controlling portion size. She now looks and feels great and is not affected by her occasional mega eats. Her greatest feat to date was one she did not finish … a 21” pizza; where only a couple of crusts remained. Definitely not her finest moment was the eating challenge live on air – HUGE marshmallows against 11 year old Barney. She lost. You can listen to 7 of possibly the worst ever radio show minutes by scrolling to 1hr 15mins into the podcast available at Radio Woking’s website – as all 3 of us try to control laughter whilst our cheeks
are hamstered to the max.
