Suffering Driving Anxiety?
As traffic increases, road layouts change, new drivers hit the streets, and traffic accidents increase, it’s no surprise that driving anxiety affects a large proportion of drivers. However, whatever the cause, driving anxiety is not a condition without relief.
All anxiety is a cycle which, unbeknownst to most, is actually increased by avoiding the cause. The more the cause is avoided, the more the danger becomes a “fact” to the mind. In reality, the danger may be minimal. The mind, however, will interpret it as a successful escape from real danger - and remember it as that.
Cognitive Behavioural Hypno-Psychotherapy can help battle and reduce this anxiety using a combination of techniques. Hypnosis and Mindfulness provide techniques which can be utilised in times of stress. Cognitive techniques examine fears and how realistic they are. By predicting outcomes and recording the actual outcomes, the mind sees the reality of the situation versus the mind’s dire interpretation of it. Behavioural techniques provide experiments which prove the fears are unfounded. Mindfulness helps clear the mind of the fog of anxiety and see a situation more clearly. Client education informs the client of the nature of anxiety - this knowledge helps remove

fears of panic attacks as the client understands what their body is doing and why.
In the safety of the office, a client can experience anxiety under Hypnosis, understand its working and practice techniques to reduce the symptoms. This understanding gives the client confidence to undertake small trials where they realise they can, indeed, succeed.
The small trials grow larger, each practiced until the anxiety is reduced. Clients keep a record to see their progress and as a reminder of their success.
Eventually, clients may look back upon these records, remembering their original anxiety as a thing of the past.
Of course, results vary client by client, according to their completion of assigned Home Practices, attitudes,
number of sessions and other factors. However, working together, my anxious clients have been able to improve their lives substantially and achieve things they previously had thought impossible.
