Ed and Sandy Donn recently celebrated
57 years of marriage, almost as long as Ed’s relationship with the school bus industry.
In addition to being a fixture at 247’s trade show booths for the past 12 years, Donn’s true claim to fame is that of being a two-term president of the National Association for Pupil Transpor- tation, first in 1987 and 1988 and again in 1996 and 1997. Donn shares the honor with the late Don Carnahan, his good friend who helped him start the NAPT Foundation along with former International Truck executive Tom Celliti. Despite holding rock-star status in the industry as an NAPT
Hall of Fame inductee in 2001 (Carnahan and Celliti followed) as well as receiving the association’s Distinguished Service Award two years later, no one is more approachable than Donn. Regardless if you’ve been in the industry for 15 seconds or 15 years, he always has a genuine smile on his face, a hand ready for a handshake and a friendly word. Tose who have personal relationships with him admire his charm, good nature and kind eyes, not to mention 43 years of experience in student transportation.
“Ed never met anyone he didn’t want to hug,” said Scott. “His good nature is infectious.” Linda Bluth, a fellow past-president of NAPT, has known Donn
for over three decades and called him a loyal friend with a big heart and welcoming smile. But beyond that, she said his integrity and accomplishments are what set him apart, adding that his qualities are “unquestionable and unmatched” in the industry. “Knowing Ed is unequivocally one of the most important aspects of my professional career in the pupil transportation industry,” she added. “He is a respected gentleman with extraordi- nary knowledge in numerous aspects of the pupil transportation industry. He is modest despite his many recognized achievements. One of his greatest attributes is always doing what is best for the industry.
