The Donn of Industry Pupil transportation icon George (Ed) Donn embarks on life’s next journey following illustrious 43-year career

T
here’s only a handful of student transportation profes- sionals who can boast over four decades of active work in the industry. One of those rare individuals, George (Ed) Donn, recently retired from his second or perhaps third
career, this time from school bus video surveillance and manage- ment company 247 Security, Inc. Rob Scott, vice president of sales and marketing for 247, recognized
Donn’s business savvy and ability to connect with clients during a retirement dinner on Dec. 13 in Long Beach, California. He recalled how Donn has always related to customers and partners alike based on his decades of leadership and experience in the industry.
“He came from relatively humble beginnings, got into a business that does not make you rich and turned that into a rich life beyond mere dollars. He has travelled, had influence on a large market- place in many ways and balanced that with a bountiful family life,” Scott told STN recently. “Tat’s what it is about; we go out and make a living to support our families. We miss things, games and recitaat times to ensure that the bigger picture gets filled in. From my view, Ed has struck a balance to be admired. He has been successful on all fronts.” Donn’s official retirement date was Dec. 31, and unlike his previous retirements, he said this one is for good.
