Club: Snap Fitness, Tillsonburg, Ontario (www.snapfitness.com) Renovation lead: Sanford Long, owner Cost: approx. $25,000 (excluding equipment) Timeline: 7 months Outcome: clean and modern

Fitness Business Canada: What prompted the renovation? Sanford Long: As the new owner of Snap Fitness Tillsonburg, I wanted to freshen up the décor and make the club feel more modern. Snap corporate has also started modernizing the entire Snap fleet, so the timing was perfect to change to the new Snap boutique gym look. The changes will be a welcome improvement. We’re always changing and improving, just like our members. Snap is working hard to stay ahead of the times as a 24/7 fitness boutique.

FBC: What did you do? SL: The walls were all painted, a multi- coloured stripe that ran along the top of all the walls was removed, and alternating walls were painted red. Our locker rooms also received a new paint scheme. We added beautiful oak

paneling behind the televisions and lots of new equipment was installed.

FBC: How did you continue to oper- ate during the reno? SL: The painters used low-VOC paint so there was no smell, and we kept the doors open for extra ventilation. We stayed open the entire time. We will also do this when we install the floor- ing; just like a road closure, we’ll pare down to one lane, so to speak, while keeping the gym still available to members.

FBC: What’s next? SL: About 5,000 sq. ft. of new floor- ing will replace the carpet throughout the club, and we’ll be adding beauti- ful plank flooring as a main walkway through the gym. A new desk will be added along with new cubbies and lockers. More equipment—it’s a sur- prise—is on the way too. Our members will love it! FBC
