TSRA introduces unique conference format The Textile Services Rental Association is experimenting with a new way to cut con- ference costs for its members. Instead of having conference displays, they are setting up 15-minute interviews with con- ference goers and suppliers. This gives suppliers a rare face- to-face time with potential cus- tomers who sign up to hear about their product or service. Because suppliers are willing to pay for such opportunities, the registration costs can be reduced for members. Naturally the arrangement is based on cooperation by the members in signing up for time with suppliers.

The conference will include coffee breaks (sponsored by GreenEarth Canada), lunch (sponsored by Fabricare Clean- ing Center) and conclude with a Gala Dinner with cocktails (sponsored by Fabritec, with cash bar) and dinner wine (sponsored by Sparkle Solu- tions). There will be a gift cer- tificate raffle from Cleaner’s Supply. Cost is $185.00 plus HST ($209.05).

My Three Weeks at DLI By Kevin Son, Plateau Cleaners, Coquitlam, BC

I would like to express my gratitude to Fabricare Canada for giving me the opportunity to attend the Drycleaning & Laundry Institute (DLI) Intro- duction and Advanced course offered earlier this year. My wife and I were married a year and a half ago, and one month later we took over the family dry cleaning business! We were shown the ins-and- outs of the business by my folks, who built this cleaners from the ground up almost 20 years ago. My parents did an amazing job building a great foundation and reputation in the community. The wealth of knowledge we received through their training was

invaluable, but I have to say the biggest lessons came from my mistakes.

It was obvious right off

the bat that my goals for the cleaners were different from my parents. I have spent the last year updating certain aspects of the business, includ- ing launching our first web- site. Although the hands-on approach was unbelievably educational,

I questioned

whether I was taught the proper ways to do things, and began researching into some sort of formal education into the dry cleaning industry. All arrows pointed me to DLI.
