Special elections nominations received for some mid-term vacancies, more petitioning to begin in January

By SHERRY HALBROOK Nominating petitions have been received

and are being verified for the vacant position of Region 6 coordinator and for two vacant seats on the PEF Executive Board. They are: Seat 20, which represents

certain members at the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision at Attica, Wende, Gowanda, Collins, Lakeview and Wyoming correctional facilities; and Seat 410 which represents PEF Region 12 members at Pilgrim Psychiatric Center on Long Island. If only one candidate in this fourth-

quarter special election is certified as eligible for a vacant seat, they will be seated. If more than one eligible candidate is certified to fill a vacancy, ballots will be

mailed to the appropriate constituency December 18, for return by January 8. No fourth-quarter nominating petitions

were received for two other mid-term vacancies on the board. They are: • Seat 270 – Elmira Psychiatric Center

and Children’s Services and PEF Region 2 positions at Fingerlakes Developmental Disabilities Services Office and at Central New York Psychiatric Center; and • Seat 280 – Rochester Psychiatric

Center, Rochester Children’s Services and state Office of Mental Health services in PEF Region 3 in job items under the agency’s central office and Central New York Psychiatric Center. Nominees will be sought for these seats in the 2015 first quarter special elections.

Any additional mid-term vacancies that arise before January 1 will also be addressed in the first quarter election cycle. So far, the following seats have been recently vacated and also will be part of that election: • Region 7 coordinator (represents

members working in Clinton, Essex, Franklin and St. Lawrence counties); • Seat 420 – State Department of Motor

Vehicles; and • Seat 500 – State Department of

Transportation Region 1 (Schenectady). If more mid-term vacancies occur during

December, PEF members in the affected constituencies will be notified directly. No dates have been set as yet for 2015 first-quarter petitioning.
