In “Observatory (first floor)” and “Where am I Going if not Towards You” images are sandblasted onto glass and lit by LED’s. The works meditate on language, and the ways we read, hear, and interpret multiple commu- nication systems. Jackson’s work combining glass and text reflects her fascination with properties of transparency and opacity, with the experience of both looking at and looking through. Text presents as both a visual shape and a conceptual language, which we read as both form and content, while the reflections of the glass add an unpredictable element. This multiplicity deflects and obscures, gen- erating multiple ways of seeing in an endless vibration.
Bio Katherine Jackson’s work has been exhibited extensively most recently at the Janet Kurnatowski Gallery, Central Booking ArtSpace, OK Harris Gallery, and Manhattan Marymount College in New York City. Her large-scale installations have been placed in public for the Centenary of the New York Public Library at the Mid-Man- hattan Library, the NY Tenement Museum. Her image/text pieces, poems, essays, and translations have been featured in numer- ous arts and literary magazines. Jackson attended the School of Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and received her Ph.D. in English Lit- erature from Harvard University, Cambridge Massachusetts.
