“Portable Air Scrubber” imagines a world beset by pollution. Meyer devises an artistic solution, in which clean air is made and stored on one’s back. Using practical innovations and a hopeful lighthearted touch, Meyer’s backpack exhibits a serious com- mitment to artistic environmental solutions. Meyer, a landscape architect designing green systems for roofs and walls, and engaging his community in greening their homes, is deeply committed to direct change in his own neighborhood. His projects are conceived of in the universal language of ecology and realized through social practice. The work emerges as interventions in mainstream tech- nology employing bio-mimicry with a machine aesthetic.
Bio William Meyer is an ecological artist and professional land- scape designer whose work is influenced by architecture, natural systems and non-western culture. He specializes in the integration of vegetation into urban and social contexts, maximizing ecologies for both functional and wonder- ful effect. Meyer’s practice of landscape design influences his work in constructing ecological artworks and radical interpreta- tions of nature. William is engaged in urban ecology and sustainable cultural initiatives with the nsumi collective, and has guided dozens of ecological restoration projects and experimental landscapes through design and
implementation in the Hudson Valley and New York City. William’s work has recently been shown at the Neuberger Museum, Man- hattanville College, and the Boulder Museum of Contemporary art. His pursuits have been published in Art in America, The New York Times, The L.A. Times, The Journal of Ecolog- ical Restoration and Zing Magazine. He lives and works in Westchester County, NY.
