Curt Belshe and Lise Prown A New Dialect, 2014
3D printed figures, iPad, AR files, cards
“A New Dialect” invites viewers to trigger Augmented Reality (AR) images by holding up different image cards in front of an iPad outfacing camera. The cards, printed with different text messages, call up AR images on the iPad, including text bubbles, audio, short animations and videos that appear next to or above 3D printed figures that are texting within the vitrine. Texting is a pervasive form of communication and has changed behavior throughout the culture. The augmentations examine the complexities of of texting culture, linguistics, communications and miscommunications as they relate to etiquette, language, social interaction, safety and legislation.
BIO Curt Belshe and Lise Prown have collaborat- ed on installations and media projects for over20 years. Their work is in the collection of the Samuel L. Dorsky Museum. Both artists live in Peekskill NY. Lise Prown has a BFA from Minneapolis College of Art and an MFA from Yale University in Sculpture. She is currently the Lab Manager and Gallery Coor- dinator for Westchester Community College, Peekskill Extension.
Curt Belshe lives in Peekskill, New York and is a Professor of Digital Arts at Bronx Com- munity College, part of the City University of New York. He holds a Master of Fine Arts
degree in Printmaking from Cranbrook Acad- emy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and a BFA degree from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri.
