(API), which allows them to provide any aftermarket supplier with the ability to integrate Choreo’s specifications with their device so it can communicate with the cloud. APIs are also used to integrate apps like Facebook to an in-dash interface. “We also take care of all the service provisioning and activation with provid- ers like AT&T and Sprint so the client doesn’t have to,” Hong added. Choreo is currently working with sev-

eral aftermarket head unit suppliers, including Pioneer and Kenwood, accord- ing to Hong. A release date for these devices was not specified. Once installed, the Choreo-enabled head unit will automatically connect to the cloud and activate. The cloud will be available in the 2014 Nissan Altima and Rogue models and will be part of the NissanConnect apps service. The system will be 100 percent cloud-based and will include instant activation with a data service provider. Choreo will go to pro- duction with another automaker in the next few months, but that company has yet to be announced. For aftermarket head units that are

installed into older model vehicles, users will be given access to five apps in the first three months after pur- chase and three more apps after six months of ownership. Every activation comes with a user account that can be accessed through the head unit, a smartphone app, or at home on a per- sonal computer. “When you log in, you will be provided with a list of apps that are currently supported and a list of apps that are in the pipeline for later release,” Hong stated. As the company adapts to newer apps on the market and makes upgrades to their system to accommodate new devel- opers, a future goal is to make older model vehicles and head units compatible with the cloud, to expand their customer base. “I think it is possible for the after-

market to connect older vehicles to the cloud,” Hong said. “Our business focus is a cloud-enabled approach for all the devices out there, to let each company focus on making the device better by offering it at a lower cost with more features.” 
