Swimming In Sheffield Pool Just Got Warmer

Gosport Leisure Centre Opens

The new £7.8m redevelopment project at Gosport Leisure Centre officially opened to the public at 10am on Monday 31 December.

DC Leisure was appointed by Gosport Borough Council to design, build and manage this new state of the art leisure park back in February 2012.

Replacing the old and outdated Holbrook Recreation Centre, the new leisure facilities include a 25m swimming pool, a smaller learner pool and a sauna and steam room.

Peter Kirkham, Development Director for DC Leisure, says: “The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games have given us a great opportunity to encourage increased participation in sport and physical activity. We are pleased to be working with Gosport Borough Council on this exciting redevelopment project and our key aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of local residents in Gosport. To achieve this goal we must provide affordable and accessible sport and leisure facilities for everyone in the community, regardless of their age, ability or fitness level.” The Leader of Gosport Borough Council, Councillor Mark Hook, says: “DC Leisure have a successful track record in bringing high quality leisure facilities to a wide range of people within local communities. We are pleased to be working with them as part of a long term partnership. Gosport now has a leisure centre of which it can be justifiably proud.”

DC Leisure currently operates over 100 leisure facilities around the UK and over the last six years has designed and built 11 new centres worth £110m.

King Edward’s Swimming Pool in Sheffield has now reopened after a partial refurbishment carried out by Rotherham based David Hallam Limited. The pool was built in 1933 as part of the school whose ground it occupies. It is now run as a registered charity by King Edward VII School Swimming Pool Trust which was formed in 1993 to keep the pool from closing. It is a successful and popular public pool now in its fourteenth year and run entirely by the Trust. It offers a wide range of facilities for all ages. A major part of the refurbishment was the installation of a Heatstar Taurus HP180 energy recovery and dehumidification system. Specifically designed for large commercial and municipal swimming pools the Taurus range caters for all the environmental control, ventilation, heating and heat recovery requirements of this type of application.

Steve Hallam of David Hallam Limited commented: “The charitable Trust that runs King Edward’s Pool wanted to create a warmer and more comfortable environment for its customers. The trust not only wanted an efficient unit but also wanted to run this 30 metre by 10 metre commercial pool at warm temperatures. This meant the environmental control unit had to be sized to manage these conditions completely. Following

advice from Heatstar the Taurus HP180 unit has proved an ideal solution.”

Steve Hallam added: “We have specified Heatstar environmental control units for many years now. Not only because Heatstar offer good customer service and excellent after-sales support but also because they work with us to adapt their units to suit our customer’s needs. For example, due to the layout of this location and the size of unit required and to make installation as easy as possible Heatstar made the unit in three sections which we could then crane over the building ready to install.”

deserve the best of everything. Having excellent, fully accessible sauna and steam therapy at Tedworth will make such a difference – whether for rehabilitation or just relaxation.”

Martin Colclough, Head of Sports Recovery at Help For Heroes said: “The fantastic steam room and sauna are both invaluable tools to aid the recovery process, here at Tedworth House. The residents will be able to use the facilities to help promote healing in addition to taking advantage of the benefits of relaxing both the body and mind – helping to reduce stress and tension.”
