PROJECT SHOWCASE Certikin breathes new life into Plymouth
F
or kids on the south coast, the £46.5m Plymouth Life Centre with its Olympic sized pool was one of the coolest places to be this summer – thanks, in part, to two brand new fun-filled flumes designed and supplied by Certikin. With a brand new 50-metre competition pool, Plymouth is now firmly on the map for world-class aquatic facilities. It was an official pre-Olympic Games training camp for the Canadian diving and Lithuanian swimming teams and Charles Johnston of Sport England said: “This is one of our iconic projects as part of the London 2012 legacy.” Further praise has come from the ASA which invested “a significant six- figure sum” to establish the Life Centre as a Beacon programme for aquatics. Tom Daley’s coach Andy Banks has been appointed Aquatics Director and said: “I am really pleased that a lot of
the feel-good factor in British diving is coming out of Plymouth. We are a force to be reckoned with.” Aside from the two flumes, Certikin also supplied a sauna, steam room and showers in the Centre’s relaxing oasis. David Greenwood, Contracts Manager for Everyone Active in Plymouth commented: “The flume at the Plymouth Life Centre has proved to be one of our most popular features with the local community. There is rarely a time when it isn’t busy with children and adults alike enjoying the experience. The sauna and steam room have also proved a popular addition to the South West’s most prestigious sporting venue.”
