OCTOBER 2012

August: Osage County, White Plains Performing Arts Center

October 5 – 13 August: Osage County

When the Weston family patriarch disappears and his family members reunite, repressed truths and unsettling secrets collide, making up one of the most riveting plays to ever grace the stage. Soon to be a major motion picture starring Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, this Pulitzer Prize- winning play will first grace Westchester on the stage of the White Plains Performing Arts Center (WPPAC). Described by The New York Times as “hugely entertaining …a ripsnorter full of blistering, funny dialogue and acid-etched characters and scenes of no-holds-barred emotional combat,” the compelling story and richly written characters of this dark, intelligent comedy will win over WPPAC audiences. If you missed its Broadway run, now is the perfect time to catch this brilliant play.

The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze, Historic Hudson Valley

October 6 - 31 Historic Hudson Valley

The mere mention of autumn brings thoughts of apple picking and crimson foliage to most people, but for those living in Westchester, it also brings visions of a landscape of glowing jack o’ lanterns, dramatic storytelling and headless horsemen. Throughout the month, Historic Hudson Valley kicks off four highly-anticipated annual autumn and Halloween events: The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze boasts more than 5,000 hand-carved, illuminated jack o’lanterns artfully and elaborately arranged by local artists. Horseman’s Hollow is an eerie haunted house tribute to the spine-chilling tales of Washington Irving. Irving’s ‘Legend’ presents master storyteller Jonathan Kruk as he channels Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman in his dramatic re-telling of the classic The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The Legend Celebration features magicians, storytellers and live musicians who create a backdrop for activities such as scarecrow making and old-fashioned games.

Bernie Williams, Paramount Center for the Arts

October 20 @ 7pm Bernie Williams

Bernie Williams, ex-Major League Baseball outfi elder and classically trained jazz guitarist, enjoyed a 16-year career with the New York Yankees. Williams will join a spectacular roster of well-established acts on the Paramount Center for the Arts’ fall season stage. His albums, a fusion of jazz, rock and the tropical rhythms of his heritage, have featured guest performances by Bruce Springsteen and Jon Secada. Already applauded by fellow musicians, local music lovers will have the chance to follow Williams from the outfi eld to the stage.
