ArtsW briefs All Decked Out
On Saturday, November 17, the building at 800 Westchester Avenue in Rye Brook will be "All Decked Out" for the annual ArtsWestchester gala. Inspired by the soaring interior of this iconic building, and thanks to generous host and owner, Robert P. Weisz, who is also the gala honoree, guests will relive the era of luxury cruise ships when elegance was de rigueur and champagne flowed. The notoriously creative Diana Gould, who has been creating ambiance in Westchester for 25 years, will work her magic and give us a night to remember. “If you close your eyes for a moment, you are
sailing on the high seas with beautifully attired gentlefolk and you have returned for a magical few hours to the roaring twenties with all its gorgeous glamour,” says Gould. Please visit www.
artsw.org/gala for tickets…bon voyage!
New Permanent Installation at ArtsWestchester Photographer Lynda Shenkman Curtis
ArtsWestchester's home at 31 Mamaroneck Avenue, a former bank building, is a beacon of arts and culture for Westchester residents. The building, called the Arts Exchange, is also a reg- istered National Historic Landmark. The Story of the Arts Exchange: A Photo Essay features the work of photographer Lynda Shenkman Curtis, whose images capture the unique architectural elements and decorative motifs that make the Arts Exchange an early 20th century jewel and a 21st century home to the arts. The photo instal- lation, made possible by The Liman Foundation, is now a permanent collection in the Arts Exchange's first floor gallery. For more informa- tion, visit:

Grants Support Partnerships with Schools
ArtsWestchester is currently accepting applica- tions for the 2013 Arts Partners Challenge (APC) Grants. These grants support partnerships between schools and teaching artists or cultural organizations that focus on the exploration of the arts. They allow teachers to bring the arts to young people who may not have the opportunity otherwise.
Andrea Elam
“This grant program allows artists like me to experi- ment, to take an idea or concept and really engage youth in the community in the creative process,” says Andrea Elam, a previous Arts Partners Challenge
Grant recipient. With the funding from her APC Grant, Elam was able to provide an educational dance program for third graders in Peekskill's Oakside School. “Instead of just being passive consumers of art, the APC Grant really allows underserved kids to create, present and understand art in a whole new way,” adds Elam.
The deadline for all submissions is November 16 at 5pm. Interested applicants can find more information on the grant process and all necessary documents at
www.artsw.org/arts-partners-challenge.
