interview by:Carly Binge Local rap duo AG & Leo are on the rise. Pulse Magazine

SWFL heard of their underground following and caught up with the two artists to get the inside story. The guys were recently spotted at Orange Glow Studios

in Bonita Springs mastering their new leading single “I Want It All.” Rumor has it, the powers that be were so impressed with their sound that they turned off the clock and allowed the recording session to continue for hours unchecked.

PULSE: Are you guys originally from this area?

AG: We grew up here, but are both originally from Haiti. I moved here when I was 12... LEO: …and I was 11. We’re a year apart.

PULSE: How did you get caught up in the hip hop game? LEO: You know, we just grew up on it; listening to it and being about it. We had a lot of musical influence also.

PULSE:What artist(s) inspired you back in the day? AG: Tu Pac, Outkast, specifically Andre 3000...

PULSE: Is anyone influencing your sound today? Any specific group(s) that you just can’t get enough of?Favorite mix tapes? When you’re driv- ing around town, who has you turning up the volume?

AG: I’d say people like Two Chainz, Gucci – LEO:Wiz Khalifa… you know, stuff like that.

PULSE: So how are you guys different from all the other artists out there? What’s so distinctive about AG & Leo?

AG: It’s all about our sound, really. We’ve got originality and that’s what we bring to the table.

PULSE: Are you always a package deal? LEO: Yes and that also makes us unique. Being a duo, it’s hard to compare us to many other artists – and I mean that in a good way!

PULSE: So who writes the lyrics and who handles the beats?

AG:We both write the lyrics. Sometimes we buy the beats or work with a local producer. Sometimes we’ll even resort to the internet.

PULSE:Can you offer any advice to other up and coming artists in the area? Or more specifically, those trying to make it in or at least be a part of the South Florida hip hop scene?

AG: You want to tell them what you usually tell everyone else? LEO: Stop rapping![laughs]We’re in the building, we’re here! And that’s what’s up. Just playin’. AG: Go hard – and that’s it. Let’s put this city on the map.

PULSE: Be honest... what’s your impression of the local scene?

AG:Naples is under construction and still being developed right now, but there’s definitely a great audience here that is starving for great music and better night life.

PULSE: Thanks guys! Just one last question... where can interested readers keep up to date and hear your latest? LEO: Our Facebook page is under AGLeo239 – and that’s where we’ll post the latest news and info about upcoming shows. AG: Or you can definitely check us out on YouTube (search AGLeo239); we put up new songs as often as possible.
