A new study published in medical journal Te Lancet has claimed that sedentary lifestyles and a lack of phys- ical exercise are responsible for 5.3 million deaths – as many as smoking – through- out the world. Te report has concluded that the problem is now so widespread that it should be treated as a pan- demic. Physical inactivity is said to be the “fourth leading cause of death worldwide”. Te report stated: “A sys-

Coastal residents are ‘healthier’, says report
Te European Centre for Environment and Human Health has found that people are “more likely” to have better health if they live nearer the coast. Its report used data from the 2001
census undertaken in England to examine how health levels varied across the country, with responses from more than 48 million people. Researchers from the centre looked
at the proportion of people who described their health as “Good” and compared the figure with how close those participants were to the coast. Read more:

Four bidders for Olympic Stadium
Te London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) has received four bids to take over the Olympic Stadium following the 2012 Games. West Ham United Football Club – originally
named as preferred bidder for the venue last year before the deal collapsed amid legal chal- lenges – is among the latest submissions. Meanwhile, Leyton Orient Football Club –
one of the two clubs to challenge the decision to award the stadium to West Ham United – has also submitted a bid for the stadium. Te other bidders are Intelligent Transport
Services in partnership with Formula One and UCFB College of Football Business. All four will now be assessed for compliance.
