The changing area, boasts four spacious dressing rooms and separate rooms for male and female offi cials; rainwater from the roof is collected and used to fl ush the toilets, and the sizeable clubhouse opens up onto a balcony with superb views of the pitch below. The development befi ts a club
who have grand plans for the future. Those plans include introducing nine-a-side football as early as next season, ahead of the FA’s decision to make it compulsory throughout the UK and, of course, ensuring the continued
progression of the club’s eighteen teams through their respective leagues. To that end, the fi rst team,
managed by former Torquay player Russell Musker, are doing their part, sitting close to the top of the Division. But facilities have to keep up with
progress on the pitch. Every step up the football pyramid brings with it added criteria, for example Peninsula Premier clubs have to have fl oodlight capability. Stoke have managed to secure planning permission for their installation but the work will require further funding. Despite the uncertainties, Michael
Calf remains adamant that the current issues will not hamper the club’s progression: “We haven’t put all the hard work
in behind this facility to let it go now. The cloud will dissipate, we will come through this and the club will move on.”
