the 2011 Adequan FEI North American Junior & Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC) presented by Gotham North and held at the end of July at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. Of the 16 individual champions and reserves in the Olympic disciplines of dressage, eventing and show jumping, all but one were Warmbloods or Warmblood crosses and the final horse was a Thorough- bred, undeniably an important foundation breed in Warmblood pedigrees.

DRESSAGE
First up at the NAJYRC was dressage. Young Rider individual and freestyle dressage champions were Isabelle Leibler, Greenwich, CT, and her 14-year-old Westphalian gelding Watson 108 by Weinzauber out of Djuna bred by Andrea Ruhs. Leibler, a 16-year-old high school student who rides with Marcel Van der Bargh and Lendon Gray, and Watson racked up a score of 67.289 in the individual competition to win a hard-fought battle
The NAJYRC started in 1974 and is for riders from ages 14–21. Split into two divisions by age, the Juniors are 14–18, and the Young Riders are 16–21. Due to the age overlap, a rider, aged 16–18, and his or her horse combination may compete as either a Junior or Young Rider at the NAJYRC. Approximately 250 riders from six nations competed
in five disciplines (dressage, endurance, eventing, reining and show jumping) at the 2011 event. In the next few
