it’s really coming together. We went through and threw out all the half-burnt equipment. Our dressage arena is the fanciest one around—we have huge letters, nice mirrors and Silva put beautiful furniture around it for people to sit and watch the horses. Suzanne Kloud is across the road and has a giant jumping ring that she’s letting us use right now, which is really nice.” The fire proved especially pivotal for Lillian Heard, who has moved to Ireland and taken a position riding for horse trainer Carol Gee, owner of Fernhill Sport Horses. Lillian had first traveled to Ireland a couple of months earlier and was introduced to Gee by Phillip Dutton. After the fire she was at loose ends and it took her about two seconds to accept Gee’s job offer. that her mare will make a comeback. “Now that it’s fall she’s growing hair like crazy,” she

says. “She also has a routine now and is not so bored— and she’s really fat, which is weird for her! I think I can ride her again by January; we just have to wait for her hair to grow back, but she’s out of the woods.” “Boyd has been so good to me letting me compete

when he’s away,” Caitlin continues. “Ryan and I went to Ireland in the beginning of August and Lil’s boss found me a really nice young horse, so I have a new little project, an Irish Sport Horse by Lux Z. Cold Harbor is a rangy Canadian sport horse gelding who shows great promise for the upper levels. Manny Diemer is an Army Special Forces colonel and is currently in Iraq; the Diemers also sent Manny’s horse Bru to Boyd for some training while Manny is overseas.

Neville’s Amazing Comeback Ever since arriving in America, it has been Boyd’s goal to represent the U.S. in international competition. Born to an American mother, he has had citizenship since birth and was granted permission to ride for the U.S. in 2009.

some exceptionally entertaining reading. Caitlin and her boyfriend Ryan

Wood found new accommodations in a two-bedroom cottage at a nearby farm and continue working for Phillip and the Martins, respectively. Caitlin’s horse Catch a Star was the most seriously injured and the last one to be released from New Bolton Center. It was a crushing blow to her since after a strong performance at the Jersey Fresh CCI**, they had been strong contenders for the Pan-American Games, but “Hoku” would not recover in time to make the team; however Caitlin remains optimistic
