it nears tag time. This year’s Moose Draw Deadline is May 31, while the deadline for the Antlerless Deer Draw is June 30. Those interested in the Controlled Deer Draw have until August 31. For more information: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/ Business/FW/2ColumnSubPage/ STEL02_173985.html

covered in the Hunter Education Program. In order to participate, you simply require a valid resident hunting card and to follow the tag drag guidelines. This year’s Blind Anglers

International Tournament (BAIT) is being held June 3 – 5. Hosted by the Chalk River and Area Lions Club, the popular event is renowned for “hooking up” professional anglers with legally blind men and women for a weekend of fishing excitement. The tournament’s goal is to demonstrate abilities rather than disabilities, and to encourage a renewed self-confidence among the visually impaired. A tip of the hat to all professional anglers, who are providing their boat, fishing equipment and most importantly, their time and expertise to this fabulous event. For more information, please call Michael Hayes at the BAIT hotline: 613-744-6035. Ontario big-game hunters will be watching the calendar closely as

Bullwinkle enthusiasts in particular should take note that following the recent Moose Program Review, the policy for “party hunting” and transferring validation tags has changed. Starting this fall, hunters who transfer their tag to a designated alternate in their party must accept the next tag they are issued in subsequent years. Summer is not only a great time

for hunting and fishing. It’s also perfect for trying out new toys. I field-tested Bushnell’s new Elite10X42 binoculars recently and discovered that after

60 years, even the world’s leading manufacturer of binoculars found room for improvement. I am a nut when it comes to quality “glass”, because I use binoculars on a daily basis. The clarity of these new Elites blew my mind. With the addition of ED Prime glass, the fully multi-coated Advanced Fusion Hybrid Lenses deliver 99.7 per cent light transmission. It may sound high-tech, but it basically means clear, unadulterated viewing even in very low light conditions. With these Elites I watched deer moving through my back field in almost complete darkness. They are 100 per cent waterproof with a new RainGuard HD coating to eliminate fogging and scatter moisture faster than ever, making them perfect for deer camp this fall. And at less than $700, they retail for nearly half of what they cost five years ago. For more information on the new Elite 10 X 42 binoculars: www.bushnell.com.

Until next time. For now, get out there and enjoy some of great sporting activities our region has to offer.
