DOWN TIME We all need a little I think it was Bob from Class

Axe Guitars in Kemptville who said guys hit middle age and decide to go out and buy either a Harley or a Fender Stratocaster. I agree. I bought a bike when I

turned 55. I have friends who went the guitar route. So it’s the second Wednesday

of the month and I get invited over to Dan Champagne’s place in Barrhaven to listen to “the band”. This is our therapy, says Dan. We

get together twice a month and jam for the fun of it. We all agree it’s a great stress-reliever. “The band” consists of friends

and relatives. It’s called Johnny and the CPAP 4. “Four of us (all except John) suffer from sleep apnea and use the CPAP machine, so we think it’s appropriate,” Dan says with a laugh. John is Dan’s cousin and the

best guitar player of the group. Glen Wheeler plays bass guitar. Glen’s family has other musical talent. His brother, John, is well known throughout Ottawa and the Valley, playing with such bands as Baker Street. Jeff Champagne, another cousin,

is rhythm guitar and lead vocalist. Finally, playing the drums is long- ball hitter John Rogers. “I hadn’t played drums since high

school,” he says, “ but when Dan told me about the jam sessions, I went out and bought a used set of electric drums and I’m having a blast!” So here I was listening to a

bunch of middle aged guys cranking www.bounder.ca
