“A Wonderful example of art and commerce working together.”

were created by local Kootenay artists. British Columbia and Kootenay artists participating in this year’s event included Louie-Marc Simard of Salmon Arm, John McKinnon of Nelson, Peter Vogelaar of Winlaw, Sean McMahon of Salt Spring Island, Patrick McIvor of Castlegar, and Denis Kleine of Nelson.

Generously supported by sponsorship from the Castlegar business community, SculptureWalk facilitated a unique partnership of art and business creating economic stimulation

for

Castlegar’s downtown core. Making the area a destination for locals and visitors alike, local businesses benefited from the increased foot traffic to the area, the affiliated promotion and community goodwill.

SculptureWalk also supported a planned series of associated summer events including a sand sculpture competition entitled SandSations, a collaborative effort between SculptureWalk and Communities in Bloom which took place during the month of July in Castlegar. Award winning Master Carvers Peter Vogelaar, Denis Kleine, and John McKinnon carved large sand sculptures based on themes from the natural environment to the delight of a large live audience. Each artist had a support carver (helper) with them and the artists employed a

free range of creative opportunity to express themselves. Three large sand sculptures were realized by end of the day on July 8th. On the following day kids from the Castlegar Recreation Complex Camp were given an opportunity to try their hand at sculpting with guidance from the sculptors.
