ar from a Greek tragedy, the story of Navarino Dunes – a new resort destination on the south-west shores of the Ionian coast – reads more like a love story between a former seaman and his native land. It is a tale of determination, passion, commitment, and
a vision dating back almost thirty years. The dream was to build an empire of sustainable accommodations and facilities that would not only allow visitors to explore the natural beauty, history and traditions of his homeland, but to create a legacy for the local people. With the opening of Navarino Dunes, visionary Vassilis Constantakopoulos is significantly closer to realising his dream. He began his career in the lower ranks of seafaring, gradually working his way up to captain. After 21 years at sea he bought an old vessel and established Costamare Shipping Company, now a leading enterprise in the international world of shipping. The Captain, as he became known, soon gained a reputation for his patriotism and aspired to give something back to his homeland. He set about acquiring land as early as 1982 and established Temes as a developer of luxury mixed-use resorts. At the heart of the company’s business philosophy is a strong commitment to environmental and social responsibility, with the aim of achieving sustainable tourism developments in complete harmony with their surroundings. Navarino Dunes is the flagship property in line with this philosophy.
