her children and grandchildren the importance of edu- cation, hard work,


family, unity, kind- ness to others, an appreciation for the arts, politi- cal awareness and God’s grace and mercy. She was also a great cook, and was famous for her chicken and dressing,

Massey was born on June 14, 1948 to Frances and the late Theodore Massey in Gray, Ga. He enlisted in the US Navy and was honorably dis- charged three years later.


He was a de-


voted Detroit fire- fighter for 33 years and retired as a captain. Addition- ally, he was the 8th battalion director of Local 344 and served on the Joint


Health and Safety Committee, Cita- tion Committee and the Finance Committee.


Mr. Massey re-


ceived many honors including four Cita- tions of Valor from Local 344, three Commissioner ci- tations, a Medal of Valor from the City of Detroit and others.
