inspirations Ephesians 5:8 NLT: “For

though your hearts were once full of darkness, now you are full of light from the Lord, and your behavior should show it!”

The man looked up to find

himself being vigorously tail- gated by a woman driver in an obvious hurry. Ignoring posted speeds and darting through traffic in a manner that confirmed her oblivious- ness to everyone else on the road, the woman went ballistic when the man hit his brakes in homage to the yellow-turn- ing-to-red light. Being forced to stop, the woman repeatedly honked her horn, yelled ob- scenities, and stuck her hand out the car window to offer that uniquely American ges- ture…the one-finger salute.

Just as passersby began

gathering to check out the commotion, the out-of-control woman heard a gentle tapping on her window. She turned to find a policeman inviting her to step out of her car. Realiz- ing that her protests to the of- ficer were falling on deft ears, the exacerbated woman exited the vehicle to quickly find her- self in handcuffs and on her way to the police station.

After cooling off in a cell

for a couple of hours, the of- ficer finally came to release

THE MICHIGAN CHRONICLE ‘This Little Light of Mine’

While Christians are certainly not perfect, we cannot allow uncontrollable displays of untoward behavior to com- promise the grace God has placed in us. The Bible says that when we do, we become as salt that has lost its flavor. It’s the flavor – the goodness of God’s love that others see in us – that compels them to open their hearts to the Lord.

the woman. Handing back her personal effects, the officer of- fered the woman an apology, saying, “I’m sorry for the mis- take ma’am, but when I pulled up to your car I couldn’t help noticing the “What Would Jesus Do?” bumper sticker, the “Christ – My Prince of Peace” license plate, and the “Prayer Changes Things” window sign. So when I found you blowing your horn, gestur- ing wildly, and using foul lan- guage, I naturally assumed the car was stolen. Where I come from, Christians just don’t act like that.”

How many “Christians”

do you know whose actions match those of the woman?

tify ourselves as Christians it automatically causes others to assess our behavior. Profess- ing Christianity through signs and stickers while simultane- ously behaving in a un-Christ- like manner betrays the integ- rity of our faith and dims the light of the Lord in us.

Not being called to the

pulpit does not mean we don’t have an important role within the body of Christ. But for us to effectively perform that role, our light must shine so as to remove all doubt of whether God’s love resides inside of us. Billboards and bumper stickers are okay, but it is our actions that give our little lights the power to shine.

Christ the King offering open enrollment

Christ the King Christian

School, 16800 Trinity Ave., is a Christian based school that has successfully educat- ed children in the Northwest Detroit area since 1938. We would like to welcome families to enroll children Pre K - 8 in a school that fosters Christian values, cultivates leadership skills, promotes understand- ing and respect, teaches self discipline, and develops aca- demic excellence in a small classroom setting.

not of the Catholic faith, but one faith that we all have in common is that we instill the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In an economy that has

been filtrated with the loss of income, Christ the King School would like to encour- age families to take advantage of available scholarships.

Poetic Reflections It’s all Gods

Not a doubt in my mind, not a second in time, belongs to me. Not a cloud in the sky, Not a tear in my eye, Belongs to me, Not a leaf on the tree, Not even me Not the dirt on the ground or even the water in the sea, Belongs to me, Not the air that I breathe or

My paid for needs Not the money that I make, Not even my mate, Belongs to me Not the car that I drive or Even my pride, Not the words that I write, or even my sight Belongs to me. It’s all Gods. © 2010 Kayatta L. Brooks

This blinding idea I’m speak- ing of,

Could make you lose friends or gain their love

The spoken truth of what you’ve done

And all the people that you’ve harmed

The rude awakening can cause quite a pain

But, you’ll be richer by far, from what you gain

You’ll gain more respect, and a bit more pride

Once you dump all your lies

So you bundle up all your fears and all your anger

Put them all in a box, marked with “DANGER”

Place that box in the deepest of holes

And to the whole world “You can bare your soul”

Shout down to the valley, or up to the mountain

Arvis Perry

That you have found you’re “Truthful Fountain”

Now, you’re ready to accept the truth, with open eyes

Open minded, you’ll know the truth is the truth

No matter where your find it

So, take this quote as words to heed “Truth is all you’ll ever need” © 2010 Arvis Perry

Detroit Edison SolarCurrents customers sing ‘Here Comes the Sun’ to the tune of $1 mil- lion in photovoltaic installation incentives

Detroit Edison has pro-

vided more than $1 million to customers in Southeastern Michigan to help power their homes and businesses with solar energy.

But there’s plenty of money

still available to help custom- ers reduce their monthly elec- tricity costs, as well as their carbon footprint, for the next 20 years.

“The response to the So-

larCurrents program has been good,” said Trevor Lauer, DTE Energy vice president, Retail Marketing. “But we still have another $24 million left to help our customers lessen their de- pendence on fossil fuels.”

The 55 completed instal-

lations represent about 250 kilowatts of renewable electric

capacity. Another 200 applica- tions under review would add another 1,300 kilowatts.

Detroit Edison started the

pilot program last year for customers who want to in- stall their own solar energy systems. Customers receive 50 percent of the value of the Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) upon installation and 50 percent of the value of the remaining RECs as a credit on their bills for the next 20 years.

The SolarCurrents program,

combined with net metering, federal tax credits and other incentives could save custom- ers more than half of the cost of a new photovoltaic system.

Truth

are welcome. You may consid- er making this contribution a memorial for a loved one. The long-range goal is to endow a permanent scholarship fund that will be available to assist deserving children into the future.

Great beginnings last a life-

time! Let them start at Christ the King School.

Johnny O’Neal in concert

Johnny O’Neal is a giant

who casts no shadow. His ap- pearance in the 2004 block- buster film “Ray” soared his career to new heights. In the Hollywood film O‘Neal played the legendary Toledo jazz pia- nist Art Tatum. O’Neal’s music has its dynamic heartbeat in gospel and the blues, but to hear him tear a strip off a bebop tune, at an outrageous tempo, sometimes defies the laws of pianist gravity.
