Good Heaven’s its May! where has the time gone? It’s all running too fast, hey slow down, wait for us to catch our breath, otherwise it all becomes too much – here we are in the land of Zen with ‘natural relaxation, yoga & deep breathing’ as par for the course. But hang on, you are those that can stand the pace, it’s all about ‘what’s happening’ out on the streets, more shops to open, fi lling up with fresh new merchandise, it’s all about action, keeping you on your toes, spending as you go! here are some newsy bites to keep you out in front -

Another gym, SUNSET FITNESS has opened, on Sunset Road, just on the ‘skirts’ of Seminyak. This hot spot is sure to attract the fashionistas, the folk that live nearby, & passer-bys that carry their gym gear in the car. The gym is equipped with all the best machines, facilities & has organized the best in classes. And, as the gym is newly opened, there are ‘gym junkie specials’! Sunset Fitness, No 1828, Sunset Road, Seminyak, T: 888 7026 & as their slogan goes, this is the

place ‘to get the kind of legs that shorts want to wear’ don’t you just love it!

Nacha Naturals – Jl Raya Kerobokan, opposite Warisan, Seminyak, is one little store to remember when on your next shopping jaunt - they specialize in ‘all things natural’ spicy soaps, lots of fragrant incense, fresh lotions & potions for face & body, also, a selected range of woods, ceramic & jewelry.

And, a note to inform you that the Food Talk column has fi nished for the time being & a new column commences this issue, called Artisans of Bali, in this issue highlighting the success of a great business - Gaya Ceramics & Design.

SAMSARA – a boutique that ‘serves up’ a great mix of fashionables!

Set back off Jalan Raya Seminyak, within a line of shops, just before Café Moka, from Kuta direction, you will spot this gem, full of desirable items.

I think what is most appealing here is the mix of merchandise, arranged in a clever way, so when browsing around, your hand just hovers over a piece, that you pick up & inspect, try on, & certainly consider buying.

I dropped by Samsara recently with two ladies in tow, they came out with arms loaded with shopping bags, so, what was it that made them buy? (apart from me coaxing them all the way!)

Well, fi rstly the owner of the boutique was in residence on the day of our visit, her name, Danya, quite a beautiful young lady who was extremely well versed in all things retail, fashionable & she knew her stock! Having Danya & her sales as- sistant working together to oblige my ladies desires, made it all happen on the day, making them very happy with their purchases & of course the store was happy making some money!

One lady was after a load of sandals to take back to Sydney, which she did fi nd. The styles were varied (fl ats, wedges & strappy) with one pair in a half shoe style, featuring a cut-out leather pattern in a camel color, perfect to wear with the popular military look & would look great with a pair of cropped jeans.

A low table of assorted fashion jewelry takes center place, this type of display can be found in most stores, however, sometimes it works well, other times not. Whatever these ladies picked up, it matched, co-ordinated with their chosen fashion pieces, from cuffs, bracelets, neckpieces & chains.

Spied a stunning large fl at wallet/ purse in the most delicious green, the soft suede featured a fi ne punched design all over, oh it was quite divine, I presented this to one of the ladies who swooped upon it saying it was just what she wanted. The green purse is now gone, but, there’s red, black & brown, maybe, there is another green purse instore now?

Now, the batik cotton clothing hanging on the racks is all ‘blocked’ into different pattern/color ways, making it easy for the customers to hone in on a particular design/shade, whatever one prefers most.

One lady (of a certain age) was taking a good look at a batik short dress (fi nishing just above the knee) with a mid length sleeve (push it up on the arm) scoop neck & a band of shirring at the hip, the dress gives a blouson look, then she said, “oh, maybe a bit short to go into a restaurant”? Not a problem here, I grabbed a sarong off the rack (in another batik pattern) twisted this around her hips, giving the outfi t a rather eclectic boho resort look, perfect for stepping out to a restaurant or bar on the beach!

This is what you have to do ladies, take the plunge & give it all you got, get ad- venturous & do try new looks. We fi nished off this look with a neck piece (a leather thong with a big brass heart hanging low) & an inexpensive beaded pull-on bracelet, both found on the table.

The lady stepped into a pair of strappy sandals (with some stud treatment) and away she walked right out of the shop! A shopping success!

Samsara has two sister shops called Rascals, details are as follows -

Samsara – Jl Raya Basangkasa No 10, Seminyak. T: 8866 306 Rascals - Kuta Square, Blok D-6, Kuta. T: 754 253 Rascals - Bemo Corner, Jl Legian, Legian. T: 761 619
