knowledge cyprus Resort guide

Ayia Napa has some of the Mediterranean’s best nightlife… and Club 18-30 guests tend to make the most of it. Ben Jackson, Club 18-30’s Ayia Napa resort manager, gives us the inside track on the town’s sights and sounds

What is Ayia Napa’s best bar for live music?

The Live Lounge, run by Chris, Pete and Nikki. Chris is the frontman for “The Loud Hailers” who play live six nights a week. They play covers and do requests, despite having their own album. It’s a really friendly atmosphere with regulars and guests.

Where do you recommend for R&B fans?

The best R&B can be found in The Castle Club. It has five different music policies and an underground lair housing the R&B room. There is a club called Black N’ White which only plays R&B, but it’s quite niche and we don’t normally send guests there.

Where would you recommend for a cocktail or two?

Square Pub – it’s right in the heart of the nightlife of Ayia Napa but has a different clientele. I’d generally start the night here and enjoy the live music before heading into the bars and clubs on the main strip.

Where is good for sports and activities? Nissi Beach has to be the best for sports, with everything from jet-skiing to bungee- jumping. It’s all you need to get your heart pumping and your adrenaline soaring.

Which beach is best for peace and quiet?

I’m a big fan of Konnos Bay. It’s 10 minutes from Ayia Napa by taxi, and very relaxing. The sunbeds float in the water and it’s a great place to go and chill out for the day – while working on that ever-important tan.

What’s your top day trip?

Limassol is a great day out; you can experi- ence both Cypriot and Turkish life as it is right on the border of the two countries; there are also some great shops for retail therapy. It will take one and a half hours to get there and it works out cheaper to hire a car for the day than take a taxi.

Where can you get good pizza? My favourite place is Quadro restaurant. It does stone-baked pizzas and every topping you can think of. It’s close to the main strip and reasonably priced. It’s a must-go place to grab a bite before a heavy night.

How about for a swanky meal? There are so many high quality restaurants in Ayia Napa – I don’t think I could pick

out one in particular. Sapporo does Japanese Teppanyaki and the chefs put on a show with your meal. Los Bandidos is one of the best Mexicans around, and Nikitas has the best steak in town. Sage is good for a real upper-class meal at a reasonable price.

What should clients avoid? Quad bikes and buggies are very popular, but also the biggest youth-killer on the island. I would recommend car hire over these if you want to explore further afield. Otherwise there are plenty of taxis around to get you from A to B if you really don’t feel like walking.

What are the packing essentials? Suncream! Ayia Napa is the hottest resort I have ever worked in, especially in July and August. Also money – Club 18-30 events are great value for money, but even so it’s easy to get through a lot of cash if you plan on going out every night of your holiday. We’re just working on our party schedule for next season – Ayia Napa is known for having some of the best parties in the whole of Club 18-30!
