Running from 14:30 to 17:55 on Sunday June 26, the Routes Africa 2016 Strategy Summit takes place in the context of African countries being expected to provide 7 of the 10 fastest-growing markets in 2016. The event will open with an address


from Carlos Alonso, president of Tenerife’s governing body, the Cabildo. A total of 12.9 million air passengers visited the island in 2015 and officials hope hosting the event will help it to become a hub linking Africa, Europe and the Americas. There are two panel sessions scheduled


that will turn the spotlight on aviation’s impact on Africa. The first will focus on


focus on the economic impact of tourism within Africa. Speakers will include Air Zimbabwe chief executive Edmund Makona and Vueling chief strategy officer Fernando Estrada.


Other talks will include a keynote


presentation by airport representatives ACI Africa secretary general Ali Tounsi, while Sabre senior consultant Gad Wavomba will speak on how African carriers can capitalise on travel growth.

executive and an ex-officio member of its board of directors. He was the airline’s head of quality, safety and security before his current role.
