Not only does the company have employees taking part in the local fire department and recycling center, but CPS Palmyra employees even built and installed new lockers for the Palmyra high school girls’ basketball team. During certain times of the year, employees even take CPS Palmyra’s loaders and shovels into the neighborhood to help clear driveways. “Awareness is the most


important thing CPS Palmyra has instilled in our community,” says David Nix, Facility Manager. “It is of great importance that the surrounding community understands the measures we take to protect our employees, customers, and community.” The company accomplishes much of this by keeping


its outlet in top environmental-friendly form. Since moving into its current facility in 1992, CPS Palmyra has taken several steps to safeguard its operations. The company has a detailed spill prevention, control, and countermeasure plan in place to address all of its bulk storage. In addition, all containers, equipment, and transfer areas feature secondary containment and diversionary structures. For CPS Palmyra’s fertilizer storage building, the 10


bays are equipped with doors for weather protection and security. All fertilizer is loaded, unloaded, and mixed on concrete pads to provide for easy clean-up. And as of 2014, the company has added remote shut-

off valves to its anhydrous ammonia facility, which allows the system to be shut down in its entirety from four locations outside of the processing area. In 2015, CPS Palmyra built an open-face building for


its application equipment storage. “This eliminates the risk of rainwater washing possible missed contaminates off of our application equipment and into nearby drainage ditches,” says Nix. Overall, all of these moves and several others by


CPS Palmyra help illustrate the company’s dedication to sound stewardship practices, he says. “Our goal is for our community to recognize our commitment to safety and preserving the Earth’s resources while striving to do our part in feeding the world,” says Nix. “Without the support of our community, we would be ineffective in our methods of becoming great stewards.” — Eric Sfiligoj
