PRODUCTS EDITOR'S CHOICE TRI-MODE OSCILLOSCOPE PROBES EASE CIRCUIT DEBUGGING


Tektronix has announced the P7700 series of TriMode probes, designed for use with its performance oscilloscopes. Offering up to 20GHz bandwidth, these are said to ease the challenges designers face when debugging circuits found in the latest mobile and enterprise designs by minimising probe loading, improving access to smaller, more densely packed test locations, and lowering overall cost of ownership. Efficient test and debug of the latest standards – from LPDDR4


to MIPI D-PHY and C-PHY – requires probes that minimize signal loss to cope with the challenging combination of high performance and low power. The P7700 probes feature a breakthrough design where the probe’s input amplifier is located <4mm from the connection point, minimizing signal loss, probe tip capacitance and noise. In addition, the signal path of the probes is fully characterized and automatically de-embedded from measurement results. Another major challenge is gaining access to signals on increasingly


smaller devices. Connections to high speed signals often require engineers to attach probe tips by soldering to a small component or feature on a circuit board. With the new probes, compact solder tips are used that fit into tight spots to minimize the impact on small size components on the board. The solder tips support full bandwidth performance for the probes and their low replacement price helps to reduce the cost of probe ownership. Additional features include the new TekFlex connector. The connector and accessories are designed to be easy to attach while providing the user with a reliable, secure connection, including a small LED that lights up to confirm connectivity from the scope to the accessory tip.

TROUBLESHOOT WITH NEW HANDHELD OSCILLOSCOPE


Being complex, today’s industrial machinery can be more difficult to troubleshoot. To help, Fluke has introduced the compact ScopeMeter 120B Series Industrial Handheld Oscilloscope. The instrument features Connect-and-View


technology that recognises signal patterns and automatically sets up the scope’s triggering, amplitude and time base, eliminating the typical trial-and-error setup process. Once the waveform is captured, the new IntellaSet intelligent measurement detection automatically selects key measurements based on the acquired waveform type and displays the most relevant measurement values (for example, Vrms and Hz for a line voltage signal, or Vpeak-peak and Hz for a square wave), helping technicians easily identify and characterise potential signal faults.

The new OLCT 700 and 710 series of gas transmitters from Oldham comprises three different models – FP, TP or IR. Designed for the detection of


flammable H2S or CO2 gases, the OLCT


700/710 series is specifically designed for harsh and extreme locations. It is, in fact, SIL 2 certified according to IEC 61508:2010 functional safety standard, and ATEX 2G certified for use in ATEX zones 1 and 2. The gas transmitters can be used in


temperatures from -40˚C and +75˚C, and their plug-in sensors can be easily replaced in the field. While the Model TP uses a poison- resistant catalytic bead sensor to detect combustible gases, the Model IR includes an infrared sensor to monitor combustible or CO2


gases. The Model TP


is equipped with a proprietary solid state metal oxide semiconductor sensor (MOS) and is suited to H2


S detection in severe
