STANDALONE SIGNAL CONDITIONER
TE Connectivity (TE) has introduced the new Macro Sensors EAZY-CAL LVC-4500 LVDT/RVDT Ratiometric Signal Conditioner. The standalone device supports both constant sum and standard AC-operated LVDT and RVDT sensors; and can measure the secondary voltage difference over the sum (Va-Vb)/(Va+Vb), supporting Ratiometric AC LVDTs and RVDTS with a constant sum of secondary voltages. Ratiometric signal conditioning minimises the thermal error of the position sensor. In addition, the signal conditioner
A FLEXIBLE WAY TO CONTROL SIGNAL SOURCES AND GENERATE WAVEFORMS
Tektronix’s new PC-based SourceXpress platform allows users to setup, synchronise and remotely control multiple arbitrary waveform generators. This introduces a versatile plug-in architecture for waveform creation modules that will span a wide range of applications from high speed serial and coherent optical to RF and wireless. The ability to create, generate or
replicate ideal, distorted or ‘real-life’ signals is essential in design, testing and operations of complex components, systems and experiments. The Tektronix AWG70000 Series of arbitrary waveform generators use direct synthesis to create a virtually unlimited number of analogue or digital signals with up to 50GS/s and 10-bit vertical resolution. With its plug-in architecture, the SourceXpress simplifies development of new waveform creation modules for faster time to market as new applications emerge. Running on either a PC or an instrument directly, this features the same interface as the native GUI of the AWG70000 series. With SourceXpress, users can control multiple signal sources from one location for faster test set up and execution. When creating waveforms for testing
wideband receivers, it is important that the test equipment generates signals with flat frequency and linear phase response. The Generic Pre-Compensation plug-in for SourceXpress creates correction coefficients that can be applied on waveforms to obtain flat frequency and linear phase response. The plug-in works for a variety of waveform types and applications including RF, IF, IQ and NRZ signals.

provides voltage, current and digital RS-485 outputs that can be used for different requirements or based on user preferences. With the use of the RS-485 port, a host computer is able to retrieve measurement data, receive operational status, perform remote calibration, and perform hot swap reconfiguration where the calibration settings can
be digitally uploaded. Synchronization to
other signal conditioners is accomplished by a daisy chain connection to a synchronization bus.

An energy-efficient 24-bit sensor signal conditioner (SSC) IC, designed for consumer barometric pressure and thermopile sensors, has been released by Integrated Device Technology (IDT). Developed at recently acquired Zentrum Mikroelektronik Dresden, the ZSSC3224 features an integrated 26-bit digital signal processor (DSP) for linearization and calibration functions. It is optimized for high-resolution consumer, industrial, white goods and medical applications, and can also benefit mobile products such as phones and tablets. Offering both accuracy and high resolution, the sensor interface delivers high-accuracy amplification and a 24-bit precision full-featured analogue-to-digital converter. According to the company, this offers features targeting battery-driven, low-power devices, such
as 1mA typical overall current consumption, ultra-low 20nA typical sleep mode current, and a 1.68V to 3.6V power supply range. It has an intelligent power-save scheme and internal filter options for low noise output signals and intelligent alarm and interrupt capabilities. The ZSSC3224 eliminates the need for an external buffer capacitor and provides a superior power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) of up to 90dB at 2V. In addition, digital compensation of signal offset, sensitivity, temperature and non-linearity is accomplished via an internal correction algorithm with coefficients stored on-chip in a highly reliable, nonvolatile, programmable memory.

SERIES EXPANDED WITH FOUR-CHANNEL VERSION
New to PCB Piezotronics’ 482C signal conditioner series is the Model 482C24, a four-channel conditioner including DC coupling that is selectable on a per channel basis. According to the company, this is ideal for use with ICP force and pressure sensors that have long discharge time constants, allowing temporary measurements down to 0Hz. An auto-zero function automatically negates any DC bias. It will power any ICP sensor and is suitable for dynamic measurements up to 100kHz. Additional features include a clamped output feature (when AC
coupled). Used in repetitive force applications, such as stamping and press monitoring, this provides a positive-only signal that electronically re-zeros each pulse before the next cycle. The signal conditioners also have a front keypad and
display, incremental gain from x0.1 to x200, TEDS support and an RS-232 port for computer control through PCB supplied software.
SCP FOR HIGH SPEED COMBUSTION ANALYSIS
A new and improved Signal Conditioning Platform (SCP) that ensures process reliability and enables early detection of unsafe operating conditions in fixed or mobile combustion analysis applications, is available from Kistler. The network-compatible SCP can be equipped
with application-specific measuring modules and allows virtual linkage of the systems deployed, so all SCPs can be operated from one centrally controlled
PC. In addition, its GUI provides an overview of all key data, such as measuring module configurations, sensor data and operating times, so that all changes can be made on a single screen; while an ‘Export’ function converts the data into various formats to document all the measurement settings. A CAN bus interface allows for the digital
capture and real-time monitoring of cylinder peak pressures in addition to the operating temperature of low pressure piezoresistive sensors. PiezoSmart guarantees the correct allocation of sensor data as errors caused by manual data handling can be eliminated and preparation effort is reduced to the minimum. Two versions are available: the Type 2853B
model and SCP Slim Type 2853B. Kistler
