NEW COMPACT SENSOR WITH 2MM RANGE

Ultrasonic equipment innovator and manufacturer, Precision Acoustics has expanded its pressure
measurement range with new 2mm and 4mm diameter needle hydrophones that have been designed to provide much higher sensitivity at frequencies below 1MHz. Although primarily aimed at applications such as underwater acoustics and characterisation of low frequency transducers, the new probes also suit frequencies above 1MHz where very weak signals need to be measured. The frequency range is sufficiently broad that the new 4mm hydrophone has been calibrated from 30kHz to 40MHz by NPL (London). The new needle hydrophones are designed to be
used with the HP Submersible preamplifier that provides immediate signal buffering and acts as a precision 50Ohm source for Precision Acoustics’ high performance hydrophone system. The larger active areas of these devices provides
much greater sensitivity (7V/MPa for the 4mm probe, 2.5V/MPa for the 2mm probe). As a result these new devices have a lower noise equivalent pressure than the existing range of plug-in interchangeable probes that have diameters from 40microns to 1mm. These hydrophones can also be used in conjunction
with the A20 in-line attenuator to permit the measurement of higher amplitude signal whilst minimising the risk of preamplifier overload.

typical proximity or inductive sensor, its measuring performance is much greater, making it ideal for OEM displacement, distance and position measurement applications. In addition, the sensor’s high measurement accuracy and linearity, as well as its high frequency response
rate of 5kHz, are good characteristics when compared to other sensors in the same price class. The sensors are protected to IP67 and so are
suitable for a wide range of applications including automation, machine building and systems integration. As the sensors are cost effective and easy to use, they are particularly suitable for medium-to-high volume OEM applications. All conditioning electronics on the new sensor
are completely integrated into the sensor housing. However, the compact M12 dimensions do not mean lower performance; the sensor’s temperature-compensated electronics provides high measurement stability (0.03% FSO) even in fluctuating ambient temperatures.
