Top tips for keeping busy

Alana Genge, of Grandparents Plus, shares her tips for keeping little ones amused: • Share an activity you love. Whether it’s baking, gardening or sewing, they’ll love to try out ‘grown-up’ activities and will cherish those skills you’ve passed on for years to come.

• Switch roles. Get them to help you with something they can do better than you, such as working out how to use a new computer, phone or gadget.

• Let your grandchild invite a friend and their grandparent over for tea. Having two children is sometimes easier than one, as they can entertain each other. It will also provide you with an opportunity to share some time — and a welcome break — with another grandparent.

• Get outdoors. On a nice day, try out your local nature trails or visit a farm. Many are free to visit and will organise exciting activities for children during the school holidays.
