Tributes flood in for Ian Mounser
Story: Sector mourns Ian Mounser Ian was the best sales professional I have worked with in the travel industry. He was an enormous part of SuperBreak’s success and made a remarkable contribution to those famous Going Places conferences. A marvellous host, he will be missed – a lot. l Peter Shanks
Ian was one of the good guys. He had the ability to make business a pleasure and championed the independent sector. Ian’s professionalism, humour and personality will be greatly missed. l Paul Emery
Ian was one of the defining figures of my career. A true gent who had time for anyone, he was also a wonderfully dry comic, both on his own and in partnership with Graham Balmforth. l Rupert Diggins
Whatever the little man did, he did it well – be that football, cricket, golf, public speaking or
even singing. He was a legend and often the voice of reason. I was proud to be his friend and to share some brilliant times with him at Dudley College of Education at College and beyond. l Ian Gowland
Respects paid to Peter Stewart
Story: Industry stunned by sudden loss of ‘legal doyen’ Peter Stewart Peter was warm, charming and, while brilliant at what he did, totally unassuming. My thoughts are with his family. l Fiona Jeffery
Peter was a mover and shaker. He fought for what was right and ensured he left no stone unturned to get to the right result. l Tony Gilpin
Peter was not only a great source of legal expertise, but a friend and amusing dinner companion at travel industry events. l Roger Bray
Peter’s passing is a massive loss to the travel industry. He was a force to be reckoned and an awe-inspiring legal mind. l Joanna Kolatsis

Bird-brained
Story: Bird strikes ruled ‘not extraordinary circumstances’ in compensation case
It’s another ignorant decision. The daftness of this legislation is matched only by the sad tendency for people to seek compensation for even the smallest delay. Three hours late? Get over it. Compensation claims should be restricted to cases where real loss has been incurred, such as missed transfers and extra hotel bills. l Branston
Well, that’s put everyone’s air fares up for ever more, as the airlines build a compensation kitty. l Omnibus
Airlines have known about this law for years but ignored it. Ryanair began charging £2/€2 in 2010 on flights to cover these costs, and has a huge war chest to pay if necessary. Fewer than 3% of flights are delayed by three hours and few people claim, so fare rises should be minimal. l Alan Bowen
