GEA INTRODUCES ITS NEW RANGE OF LARGE INLET ROTARY VALVES FOR UNINTERRUPTED POWDER FLOW

G

EA has now launched its new range of large inlet rotary valves for food and dairy powder products. The

new valve has been designed specifically for applications that require an uninterrupted powder flow through the valve. The design angle of the throat of the

valve inlet is critical in these applications as any interruption to the flow can cause bridging especially when handling products that do not flow well. Applications include: spray dryers, cyclones, and dust collection or recovery systems where throughput is not the deciding factor but fine product can bridge and restrict flow. Stainless steel rotary valves that have

a suitably large inlet size for attaching to dryers and cyclones require a high structural integrity of the finished casting after machining. This can be difficult to achieve without adding unsightly external bracing which can detract from the overall appearance of the finished valve and hinder its cleaning and maintenance. GEA has solved this problem by

manufacturing a much more rigid single piece casting that looks more aesthetically pleasing in a high hygiene food plant and

performs much better under potentially dust explosion conditions. The high quality castings have been designed in accordance with ATEX 94/9/CE Class 2 Cat.1 Zone 20 to withstand dust explosions, making them ideal in high risk installations such as spray dryers, cyclones and dust collection systems. The heavier wall thickness of the GEA

stainless steel castings makes sure that the valve body is rigid and will not flex under the most demanding conditions. This inherent rigidity further reduces the risk of flexing and the possible contact between the rotor and the body which can result in contamination of the product. . The new valves are available in sizes

ranging from 200mm to 300mm diameter for the CV500 model and from 300mm to 350mm for the CV750 model. All feature

a 10-vane rotor design for better pressure differential containment; are available with options for Ezy-Slide demounting for efficient cleaning and maintenance; and can be fitted with GEA’s latest Generation 3 RDS system (Rotor Detection System) that helps guard against product contamination. A 12-vane rotor, with an upgraded end- plate fastening, is available for applications that require full explosion containment. www.gea.com

NEW STRAPPER MEETS NEEDS OF THE CORRUGATED CARDBOARD INDUSTRY

M

osca (http://en-uk.mosca.com) has launched a strapping machine specially developed to meet the

needs of the corrugated cardboard industry. Designed to strap large-format products for secure transportation, the new Mosca EVOLUTION SoniXs TRC-6 combines the company’s proven SoniXs ultrasonic sealing technology with a compact design and easy access for cleaning and maintenance, made possible by a new Standard-6 strap path system which can be easily disassembled and reassembled without tools. As a result, the cost-effective

EVOLUTION SoniXs TRC-6 delivers extremely reliable, high-quality strapping of up to 28 strapped packages per minute on a standard-size frame with a passage width of 1650mm, and up to 25 packages per minute on the largest passage width of 2600mm. The machine’s simple tool-free

disassembly capability simplifies maintenance, cleaning and repairs. The removable roller-table makes it easy to access the inner workings of the machine – if required the table can be unlocked and completely detached for direct access to all core components from above. In operation, the EVOLUTION

SoniXs TRC-6 straps packages on the conveyor transversely to the direction of transport. The pneumatic hold down device is integrated into the frame, enhancing the machine’s compact uncluttered design. It can be manually fixed at a specific height before the start of the strapping cycle to ensure maximum performance regardless of package height. Safe to operate without separate

protection, and easy for operators to use with minimal training, the machine

comes labelled with a CE marking. Mosca’s patented SoniXs ultrasonic

sealing units require no warm-up time and are extremely energy-efficient as energy is only consumed at the moment the strap ends are sealed. The welded seam offers more than 80 percent of the tensile strength of the strap, making it exceptionally strong and stable.
