Sullivan who won himself a trip into space for carding a hole in one during the last round of the recent KLM Open in Zandvoort, Holland. The 216th-ranked Sullivan, who has been a member of the European Tour since 2011, won the prize worth $100,000 (£61,483) with an ace at the 15th hole, and will be able to take his flight with XCOR Space Expeditions, the US spaceflight company, from the end of 2015 onwards. Apparently over 300 people have already signed up for this extra-terrestrial trip of a lifetime. It makes a change from the usual prize of a new car, and I bet he’s feeling on top of the world! Just hope he doesn’t suffer from vertigo! Me? I’d take the car any day! Spare a thought for brave American

caddie Lance Bennett, who carried the bag for Matt Kuchar at the recent 2014 Ryder Cup. Bennett returned to work just three weeks after his 39-year-old wife, Angela, died unexpectedly of natural causes, leaving behind not just a grief stricken husband but also a four-year-old daughter. This sad story reminds me of Darren

Clarke, who played in the 2006 Ryder Cup held at the K Club following the death of his wife Heather from cancer just a month earlier. Rather puts things into perspective don’t you think? Wow! Nicolas Colsaerts, known as

the ‘Muscles from Brussels’, set a new European Tour longest drive record with a staggering 447-yard carry from

the 18th tee on the second day at the recent Wales Open. He went on to card an eagle three at the 613-yard last hole at Celtic Manor, surpassing the previous record of 442 yards by Indian pro Shiv Kapur at the 2012 Madeira Islands Open. A modest Colsaerts later told

reporters: “The hole was playing down wind and I managed to get a good bounce. I thought it was too far right but it's all downhill and down wind and it must have lugged down the fairway. If all the stars align you can hit it a long way.” However, Colsaerts effort was not enough to get him in the Guinness Book of Records. American golfer Davis Love III holds the PGA Tour record with a 476-yard drive in Hawaii which he set in 2004 – but even that does not touch the longest drive ever recorded in professional golf. This was a mind-blowing 515 yards achieved by Mike Austin, also an American, at the 1974 US Senior Open in Las Vegas. Trouble was, the hole that he was playing was only 460 yards long! Rumour has it that Mike Austin was

just a pseudonym, and that his real name was Clark Kent.
