LEFT FOOT » Your weight

should be on your left foot as you follow through. Drive off one leg to land on the other.

CORE » Make sure you

have full rotation. Your core should face the other way and your wrists should be turned over.

RIGHT FOOT » If STICK HEAD

Follow through to where you want the ball to go, improving your accuracy.

BOTTOM HAND ON STICK

If you’re in close shooting, your hands will be higher up because you need to protect your stick. But if you’re outside and power shooting, slide your hand down to get more velocity on your shot.

EYES It’s all about deception and

trying to move the goalie. Get her to think you’re shooting one way, but really shoot the other. Don’t look where you want to shoot.

W MY DILEMMA

I defi nitely want to learn how to surf. I don’t know where, but maybe Hawaii. My problem is I’m deathly afraid of sharks.

SPICE IT UP

On the U.S. women’s soccer team, Tobin Heath, who played at North Carolina, is one of my favorite athletes. She plays so crafty and creative. Her fi rst game in world play with the U.S., she had two nutmegs [dribbling through opponent’s legs].

TRAIN TO GAIN

Your legs and core affect your shot. It’s not just hands and wrists, so I do a lot of rotational core training. For power shooting, you’re working on squats, bench and a variety of other exercises.

BAIT LIKE GAIT

Coach [Gary] Gait was a very deceptive player so he taught me different ways to be creative and be able to score at different angles. I now know I can score from behind goal-line extended.

your shot is a really hard power shot, you may continue a little bit of your

run. Break down your feet, hoping that the ball goes in. But if it doesn’t, be ready to ride.

GOALIE HIPS » Since the

goalie is a righty here, I set up my shot looking high. The higher your elbows are up, the more it looks like you will shoot high. But then I really try to place it by her hips. Hold longer and fl ip your wrists faster to go lower.

e have a ritual where we dance in the locker room before games. The coaches bring candy

and coffee. I really don’t drink the coffee, but I defi nitely snack on the candy.
