EcoPure Waters offers a sustainable, user-friendly drinking water solution for independent schools

PURE INNOVATION

Paul Proctor, managing director of EcoPure Waters, puts the case for in-house filtered water systems

What are the cost benefits of water filtration systems? They offer organisations substantial financial advantages over buying in botled water. A still and sparkling chilled water system can be designed and installed, with free botles, dishwasher trays and carry-crates, for a cost of around £5 a day. This includes servicing and parts replacement cover, so the system is always fully maintained and up-to-date. At this cost, if an organisation serves as

litle as ten litres of water a day, they will start saving money from day one, typically generating overall savings of 80% or more against current bought-in botled water costs. And it’s not just about the purchase price of the botles themselves – you’ll also get the financial savings from not having to order, handle, store, refrigerate and dispose of bought-in botled water.

What about the environmental benefits? These systems eliminate the carbon and energy impact associated with manufacturing, transporting and recycling non-reusable plastic (or glass) water botles. The systems add just three per cent to the carbon impact of tap water, making it 580% less environmentally damaging than most botled water brands.

Do your botles provide any branding opportunities? Serving water in your own reusable glass botles gives an excellent opportunity for own-branding. Using a permanent colour printing process, the botles can display a logo, a branding message and/or a sustainability statement. This is a great opportunity for

schools and colleges to bring their brand identity right to the table – in the dining room, conference facility or banqueting suite.

Is the water filtration market growing? The market for in-house filtration is growing strongly with the increased environmental concerns over botled water. With organisations continually looking to enhance their corporate social responsibility aspirations, sustainability is becoming increasingly important. For caterers, replacing bought-in botles with an on-tap supply of freshly chilled water is not only an easy sustainability win: it’s also a decision that brings profit, taste and operational benefits.

How important is the education sector for EcoPure Waters? Hotel groups, corporate customers, restaurants and contract caterers are not the only ones learning the benefits of filtration. Many independent schools and educational establishments – including Stowe, Eton, Westminster, Benenden and 28 Oxford colleges – are already benefiting from mains water filtration systems. At the recent Independent Schools’ Bursars Association (ISBA) Conference it was clear that many independent schools see these filtration systems as the way forward – economically, environmentally and, now, ethically. EcoPure Waters has recently partnered with the water charity Just a Drop, which provides clean water and sanitation projects in poor communities

around the world. For every system EcoPure Waters sells in the UK it makes a financial contribution to Just a Drop which could provide 50 children with clean, safe water for up to ten years.

How user-friendly is the system? Rebecca White, Catering Manager at Ryde School with Upper Chine, has told us that she finds the system quick and easy. In her words: “The system allows us to create an endless supply of chilled still and sparkling drinking water. We only fill the bottles we need for each function, which is ideal as we’re catering for many different-sized events and meetings. We don’t need to store and refrigerate large stocks of bought-in bottles because we create chilled drinking water on demand. When the event is over, bottles can be quickly loaded into their racks for dishwashing and subsequent storage.”

What level of maintenance is required? The cost of a system includes contracted visits by EcoPure’s engineers for servicing and, when required, parts replacement. The only additional maintenance requirement is to keep the equipment clean during operational use. EcoPure Waters can supply a suitable cleaning kit and training for staff to ensure that the most stringent Environmental Health Officer requirements are met. iE
