who studied indigenous cultures throughout history as an archaeologist and an anthropologist. Their shared interest in people not only greatly influenced the development of Renzo’s “Lucid Realism” style of painting, but also lends to his sculptures’ mood. Renzo’s sculptures reinforce a primal nature. His integrated original symbols make his work transcend time. “I have experienced the symbols, pictographs of many different cultures: Asian, Latin, African, American Indian, Intuit, Australian Aboriginal and early European,” states Renzo, “I found various similarities in fundamental pictographs — I combined what I had found to create my own. Later, I began including mathematical and physical symbols due to their universal nature.” Renzo’s often adorns his figures with ropes and other bindings to convey how emotions, feelings, culture, and history are bound to one’s sense of self. Relationships dissected, Renzo’s philosophical yet methodical approach shows the persistence and commonality of the human spirit. Renzo purposefully leaves his work open to the interpretation. Throughout history collectors have acquired sculptures for this distinct purpose, as a means to stimulate discussion. The artist constructs a sculptural piece to be perceived from every angle, as the viewer can circulate the art and study every compositional aspect.

“I use rocks and twigs as metaphors for emotion, memory and thought, binding figure to figure, stone to stone, figure to stone, etc. ... After all, it is a universal nature to dream; and therefore it connects us — we dream the same.”
